Smoking ban in Biloxi Casinos?

Read about a proposed ban that would not allow smoking in casinos, restuarants, and bars. However from the comments below it doesn’t look like this will take effect. I am a fan on non-smoking tables and slot machine sections but banning it throughout the whole casino would be a little overboard and could hurt business along the coast.

The author of a proposed law to ban smoking in Mississippi says the Legislature isn’t likely to pass his bill.

The comments from Rep. John Mayo, D-Clarksdale, come Wednesday during a public hearing held by the House Gaming Committee in Biloxi. The committee was in Tunica last week and was scheduled in Vicksburg on Thursday.

When we get more news, we will post it here.

Monster Slot machine jackpot in Biloxi Casino

A Pensacola woman, Jacqulyn Elenz, turned a mere $50 in quarters into an $848,000 dollar payoff!

At the Beau Rivage Casino Hotel, in Beautiful Biloxi, dreams can come true.  On December 2nd, 2008 the 51 year old said that she had spent about 90 minutes yanking levers when she had the massive hit.  “it was a total shock”, said Elenz and the staff immediately roped off the area.

She and her family will be having a very merry Christmas.  She and her husband want to give the money to their children, which is very sweet.  The is the fifth MEGAJACKPOT grand prize winner of the year in Mississippi, and that she has joined others in the 2.6 million that these Biloxi Casinos have paid out for the year.

Isle of Capri Biloxi halts plans again

This is not good news for the coast, because expansion equals more construction jobs and more jobs once completed. It looks like with Margaritaville halted or slowed down there is not much of a rush to get the Isle expansion completed as well.

The on-again, off-again plans to expand the Isle of Capri Casino in Biloxi are off again, at least until the economy improves.

On Tuesday, Isle Executive Vice Chairman James Perry said the company will not take on any new capital projects or continue work in Biloxi in the current economic conditions.

The company recently reached an agreement with its insurance carriers to settle Hurricane Katrina claims from 2005 and expects to receive approximately $95 million by the end of December.

In July, Isle of Capri Casino officials said they would spend about $160 million on renovations at the Biloxi property, but would take their time because work had slowed at the neighboring Margaritaville Casino site. The Isle had initially planned expansion work in 2007, but put it on hold as it reassessed the resort’s needs. The expansion had been targeted for a 2010 completion.

Margaritaville on hold?

Heard a couple mixed reports that zero to very little construction has been going on at the Margaritaville site. Harrahs has reported that they are working to restructure some of their debt but that they would continue to finish Margaritaville.

I wonder if we will see a Margaritaville in Biloxi?
